Welcome to a heavenly corner of Međimurje in which rest, like a pearl on golden hills, vineyards, orchards and farmsteads. Beside beauty of the landscape and quality of wine, Štrigova is proud of its beautiful churches and chapels. Younger, church of St. Jerome has an exquisite value, because it is a monument of zero category. It was built between 1739 and 1761 on foundations of basilica from the early Christian times, and church (destroyed in earthquake) that was built by counts Celjski.
Today it keeps in it exquisitely preserved fresco paintings of baroque Pauline Ivan Ranger of priceless value. Parochial church of Saint Mary Magdalene was built around 17th century and today it belongs to one of the most beautifully arranged in Croatia.
Our inventive and hardworking hosts will with a kind smile transfer tranquility and natural beauty of our hills. Štrigova is known since antique for heavenly drop that was also appreciated by Romans and later on was served on royal courts throughout Europe as „heavenly nectar“. Even today our wines are winning highest recognitions and are part of the offers even of our airline transport companies. We are also proud of the quality of produced fruit and highly spread cattle breeding that produce the healthiest milk.
Dozing on the quiet hills are old mansions-courts of noble families, in present day called „Terbotz“, „Franetović“ etc., that tell us tales of past times.
Štrigova is a village in Međimurje, 19 kilometers northwest from Čakovec, of 202 meters of above sea level altitude. It is placed in the far northwest of Međimurje County and Republic of Croatia. There are many legends and tales about Štrigova. In one of them disappearance of medieval castle on the hill Štrigovčak is mentioned wrapped with the veil of secrecy. There are two versions of disappearance. One says that the castle was destroyed in Turkish raid, while the other tells that the castle has disappeared in a fire that was caused by lightning as a „punishment of God“ because of arrogance and insolence of the counts Celjski. In Štrigova there is a State archive placed in an old primary school that was built in 1912.
Unavoidable parts of Štrigova are numerous courts, wine tasteries, vineyards from which quality and widely known wines are produced.
Štrigova is first mentioned as a Parish in 1334 in canonical visitation.
Štrigova was through history an important sacral and economical centre. It is sprinkled with chapels and has two churches. Parochial church of St. Mary Magdalene was built in 17th century and is considered as one of most arranged churches in state.
The other church is dedicated to St. Jerome and is monument of zero category. Present day church of St. Jerome was built by brothers of the Pauline order between 1738 and 1752, and next to the church, complex of Pauline monastery was built. The church is well known for fresco paintings of Ivan Ranger „the Baptist“. At present time they are in process of restoration.
