Tourist zones of Prlekija & Međimurje
About project
Project Tourist zones of Prlekija and Međimurje will connect two important tourist zones into a one wider zone.
Interstate commission for application of Agreement about low-frontier traffic has already ratified interstate level one of two planned tourist zones (Raskrižje - Štrigova). This tourist zone has just concluded three-year preparations and intends to enable tourists to cross border crossings without special permits based on interregional Cards program for tourist border crossing.
We would like to put this to practice also to the southeastern part of the larger region Prlekija – Međimurje.
In the next 24 months we shall try to perform all necessary actions to gain the status of tourist zone on Ljutomer - Ormož area (on Slovenian side) and Nedelišće – Gornji Mihaljevec (on Croatian side). Both tourist zones would create tourist destinations in areas of popular wine roads of Međimurje and Prlekija with preparation of marked border crossings, paths with marked info points for walking, cycling and horseback riding.
Competence of applicants and their highly attractive tourist destination would improve tourist offer of wider area and would ensure better connection between people from both sides of the border. Both new tourist destinations would be promoted through different materials on national and international market what would ensure new employments and growth of life standard in underdeveloped border area.
Besides public sector, different associations, clubs and individuals including minorities from both sides of the border are included in the program. New tourist destinations would be recognizable on international level thanks to two factors: rich offer of natural heritage of wine roads of Jeruzalem and Međimurje and other is the fascinating world of history that reveals millennial world between the rivers Mura and Drava.
